چکیده

According to decision making theory, if we know the user’s utility Ui = U(si) of all possible alternatives si, then we can uniquely predict the user’s preferences. In practice, we often only know approximate values Vi ≈ Ui of the user’s utilities. Based on these approximate values, we can only make probabilistic predictions of the user’s preferences. It is empirically known that in many real-life situations, the corresponding probabilities are described by a logit model, in which the probability pi of selecting the alternative si is equal to pi = eβ·Vi

On Rank-Ordered Nested Multinomial Logit Model and D-Optimal Design for this Model

In contrast to the classical discrete choice experiment, the respondent in a rank-order discrete choice experiment, is asked to rank a number of alternatives instead of the preferred one. In this paper, we study the information matrix of a rank order nested multinomial logit model (RO.NMNL) and introduce local D-optimality criterion, then we obtain Locally D-optimal design for RO.NMNL models in...

Application of Discrete 3-level Nested Logit Model in Travel Demand Forecasting as an Alternative to Traditional 4-Step Model

This paper aims to introduce a new modelling approach that represents departure time, destination and travel mode choice under a unified framework. Through it, it is possible to overcome shortages of the traditional 4-step model associated with the lack of introducing actual travellers’ behaviours. This objective can be achieved through adopting discrete 3-level Nested Logit model that represen...

Working Paper Series Categorical Data Categorical Data

Categorical outcome (or discrete outcome or qualitative response) regression models are models for a discrete dependent variable recording in which of two or more categories an outcome of interest lies. For binary data (two categories) probit and logit models or semiparametric methods are used. For multinomial data (more than two categories) that are unordered, common models are multinomial and...

Pregibit: A Family of Discrete Choice Models

Pregibit: A Family of Discrete Choice Models The pregibit discrete choice model is built on a distribution that allows symmetry or asymmetry and thick tails, thin tails or no tails. Thus the model is much richer than the traditional models that are typically used to study behavior that generates discrete choice outcomes. Pregibit nests logit, approximately nests probit, loglog, cloglog and goss...

On Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models

There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
